A severely broken pavement on Dairsie Road in Eltham, Greenwich, is creating a hazard for pedestrians, with a resident reporting it needs urgent fixing before someone is seriously hurt. The issue, reported on 16th April, remains unresolved.
According to a resident report on FixMyStreet, the pavement on the even side of Dairsie Road has "come up" and is "extremely dangerous." The report highlights the real-world impact, stating that the broken pavement poses a serious injury risk to anyone walking in the area. The resident emphasised the need for immediate repair to prevent serious harm.
The hazardous pavement on Dairsie Road is located in a residential area of Eltham, home to terraced and semi-detached housing. Deansfield Primary School is just 200-240 yards away, meaning many children and families likely use this pavement daily. The issue on Dairsie Road contributes to broader concerns about pavement conditions in Eltham, with previous reports from September 2025 indicating that Greenwich Council had been criticised for its approach to maintaining local roads and pavements.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich Council typically inspects reported problems within five working days. If a repair meets their criteria, they aim to fix it within 28 working days of the inspection, with emergency repairs addressed within 24 hours. More complex repairs, however, can take up to six months to complete.
The Council has stated its commitment to improving highway infrastructure, having doubled its road resurfacing budget to £1.6 million in the 2025/2026 financial year and planning to invest £8 million over the next five years on road and pavement resurfacing.
Despite these commitments, the report on Dairsie Road currently shows no updates since its submission.
