A recent report details persistent fly-tipping, including a burnt sofa, which is creating an unsafe environment and attracting unsavoury characters to the area. Frederick Place Plagued by Persistent Fly-Tipping and Arson Risk

A resident report submitted on 2nd August highlights a space near Bloomfield Road and Frederick Place that has become a dumping ground. The report alleges that a makeshift bed or sofa has recently been set alight, leaving the entire area littered with rubbish. This incident raises serious concerns about potential arson and the risk of further fires spreading in the densely populated Plumstead neighbourhood.

Unsafe Environment for Plumstead Residents

The report further states that unsavoury characters are frequently loitering around Bloomfield Road and Frederick Place for drug-related reasons. This area was reportedly blocked off over a year ago to deter such activities, but the problem has resurfaced. The presence of discarded items and the recent fire create a hazardous environment, forcing residents to navigate an area prone to anti-social behaviour.

Greenwich Council's Stance on Fly-Tipping and Enforcement

The Royal Borough of Greenwich aims to clear reported fly-tipping within 48 hours, working towards a 95% performance target. Fly-tipping remains a significant challenge across Greenwich, with an average of 1,200 incidents reported monthly in 2025. To combat this, the council significantly increased its Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) for fly-tipping from £400 to £1,000 as of 19th January 2026. Residents who provide information leading to a successful fine or prosecution can also receive a £100 reward. The council is also implementing new cameras and a "name and shame" scheme to deter offenders.
