Deaf Paediatric Nurse on Operation Ouch!

Asha Hylton, a paediatric nurse at University Hospital Lewisham, has been featured on CBBC's Operation Ouch!. The programme explores medicine and biology for young audiences.

The TV crew spent a day with Ms Hylton in the Paediatric Emergency Department. They documented her vital work and the adaptive tools and communication methods she employs.

These include an adaptive stethoscope, British Sign Language interpreters, lip-reading, and assistive technology. Ms Hylton stated, "I had a great time filming on Operation Ouch! I’m proud to represent LGT as a deaf paediatric nurse."

She added, "There are many colleagues in the NHS who have disabilities, and it’s important that I can speak up and show them that it is possible, it can be done with the right support and access." Ms Hylton is passionate about caring for children and young people.
