Bellingham Blaze: Roof Gutted in Terraced House Fire

A devastating fire has ripped through a terraced house in Bellingham, Lewisham, leaving its roof completely destroyed and a neighbouring property partially damaged.

The Terraced House Inferno on Playgreen Way

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were mobilised to Playgreen Way in Bellingham after a blaze broke out in the early hours of this morning. The roof of an end-of-terraced house was engulfed by flames. Half of the first floor and part of the ground floor also suffered significant damage. The fire also spread to half of the property's garden.

Lewisham Safety and Fire Prevention Advice

The loft of an adjoining house was also partially damaged by fire. Several people evacuated their homes before the arrival of emergency services and were assessed by the London Ambulance Service. As a precaution, one gas cylinder was safely removed and cooled. Firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire, which was declared under control by 09:07. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

According to recent data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Lewisham borough experienced a 10% increase in residential fires in the last reported year. The Metropolitan Police and London Fire Brigade offer crucial safety advice for residents. This includes ensuring smoke alarms are tested regularly and that escape routes are kept clear.
