Bromley Council has launched a new pilot scheme providing an opportunity for local entrepreneurs and businesses to test products and services at Bromley Charter Market.
The initiative, delivered by Opportunity Bromley in partnership with Bromley Council, Start Up Bromley, and Your Bromley BID, aims to support the borough's businesses by offering an affordable, low-risk environment to trial new offerings.
The pilot scheme offers successful applicants a two-week trial period at the historic Bromley Charter Market, which dates back to 1205 when it was established by a Charter of King John. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to bolster Bromley High Street and support the local economy. Councillor Yvonne Bear, Bromley Council’s Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing, stated that the scheme provides valuable insight for new and aspiring entrepreneurs, helping their businesses to flourish. She added that it exemplifies the council's commitment to innovation and supporting vibrant high streets.
Businesses, makers, and online retailers with new or unique product ideas are encouraged to apply. Participants will share a stall during the trial, which takes place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, days known for high footfall at the market. The deadline for applications is Friday, 19 June. Further details can be found on the Bromley Council website.
This scheme is funded through a combination of council resources and contributions from local business improvement districts, with no specific external grant funding yet detailed. Historically, markets like Bromley Charter Market have been vital to local economies, providing accessible trading spaces. Recent figures indicate that high street footfall across London has seen a gradual increase, making initiatives like this potentially beneficial for local traders.
