Lambeth Council Launches Urgent Review into Immigration Enforcement Co-operation

June 15, 2026

Lambeth Council has announced an urgent review into its arrangements for co-operating with immigration enforcement.

The review, commissioned by Councillor Jonathan Bartley, the council's Cabinet Member for Safer, Thriving Neighbourhoods, will examine current policies, practices, and partnerships across the council and its commissioned services. This initiative aims to establish a clear and transparent understanding of the council's existing information-sharing arrangements concerning immigration enforcement activities.

Review aims for transparency and resident safety

The review commences at the start of Refugee Week, with Councillor Bartley stating, "Lambeth is home to people from every corner of the world. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths and we want all residents to feel safe, valued and able to engage with public services without fear." He added, "Immigration raids are causing fear and dividing Lambeth’s communities. As Refugee Week begins, it is right that we take a careful and transparent look at how information is shared in relation to immigration enforcement activity." The council seeks to understand the circumstances under which information is shared and whether current arrangements align with the borough's aspirations.
