Closure order granted for St Saviours and Purbrook estates

The Metropolitan Police have successfully obtained a closure order for all blocks on the St Saviours Estate and the Purbrook Estate. This order is intended to provide the police and the council with additional emergency powers to address criminality, rough sleeping, trespassing, drug crime, and anti-social behaviour (ASB) that are currently impacting the estates.

Emergency Powers and Evidence

The police statement noted that such orders are not easily obtained and require substantial evidence to be presented before a court. These legal measures allow authorities to restrict access to specific areas, making it a criminal offence for unauthorised individuals to enter the premises.

Residents are encouraged to continue reporting instances of anti-social behaviour to make use of this new tool. The local police team will continue to conduct patrols and deal with unwanted visitors, some of whom may be subject to a community protection notice (CPN). These notices carry significant weight in any subsequent arrest or charge, providing a clearer legal pathway for prosecution.

Operational Patrols

On Saturday, 25 April 2026, PCSO Paul and PCSO Ali were observed conducting floor-to-floor checks of several blocks across the estates to ensure compliance with the new orders. These patrols are part of a wider strategy to reclaim communal areas from those involved in illicit activities and to provide reassurance to the local community.

Residents can report breaches of the closure order or ongoing ASB through the Metropolitan Police online portal or by calling 101. In cases of emergency or crimes in progress, the public is advised to dial 999.
