A dramatic fire ripped through a maisonette on Bexleyheath Broadway last night, prompting a large emergency response and leaving part of the building significantly damaged.

Emergency Crews Tackle Bexleyheath Broadway Blaze

Four fire engines and approximately 25 firefighters were mobilised to the scene on Bexleyheath Broadway. The incident, which occurred on the evening of June 26th, saw flames engulfing parts of the first and second floors of the maisonette building.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers received a total of 16 calls reporting the fire. Fire crews from Bexleyheath, Erith, East Greenwich, and Sidcup stations worked diligently to bring the situation under control.

The fire was declared under control by 7:24 PM, just over an hour after the initial call at 6:08 PM. Thankfully, two adults and a child managed to evacuate the property before the arrival of the fire service.

London Ambulance Service crews were on hand to treat those affected by the incident at the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities.

Bexleyheath Safety and Crime Statistics

In Bexley, there were 1,018 incidents of "fire in buildings" recorded between April 2023 and March 2024, according to data from the Office for National Statistics. This represents a rate of 3.7 incidents per 1,000 population.

The Metropolitan Police offer extensive safety advice for residents. For fire prevention, they recommend ensuring smoke alarms are fitted and tested regularly. They also advise keeping escape routes clear and familiarising yourself with your building's fire safety procedures.
