Bromley Flat Fire: Three Hospitalised

April 20, 2026

Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Widmore Road in Bromley on Sunday morning, 19 April 2026. A portion of a third-floor flat in a four-storey residential block was damaged by the blaze.

In a fortunate escape, a man, a woman, and a child managed to leave the property before the London Fire Brigade (LFB) arrived. All three were treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) suffering from smoke inhalation. The LFB’s 999 Control officers were first alerted at 07:10, mobilizing crews from Bromley and Beckenham stations, who brought the incident under control by 07:46.

Essential Fire Safety for Residents

Living in a block of flats requires specific safety knowledge, especially as new regulations under the Fire Safety (Residential Evacuation Plans) (England) Regulations 2025 came into full effect on 6 April 2026.

Know Your Plan: Your building will have either a "Stay Put" or a "Simultaneous Evacuation" strategy. Check the fire safety notices in your communal hallway to know which one applies to you.

Residential Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (RPEEPs): If you or someone you live with has limited mobility, sight, or hearing, you are now legally entitled to a Person-Centred Fire Risk Assessment (PCFRA). Contact your landlord or managing agent to ensure a bespoke evacuation plan is in place.

Fire Doors: Your front door is a critical fire door designed to hold back smoke and flames for at least 30 minutes. Never prop communal or front doors open, and report any damage to self-closing mechanisms immediately.
