Six fire engines and approximately 40 firefighters were called to a serious house fire on Stock Hill in Biggin Hill during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The blaze caused significant damage to the upper floors and roof of a three-storey detached property, though no injuries have been reported.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) received the first of three emergency calls at 01:32. Control Officers immediately mobilised crews from the Biggin Hill, Addington, Bromley, and Orpington fire stations to the scene. Due to the scale of the incident and the height of the property, a 32-metre turntable ladder from Forest Hill Fire Station was also dispatched.
The ladder was strategically deployed as an observation tower, providing the Incident Commander with vital situational awareness as crews worked to contain the fire. This high-level vantage point allowed firefighters to monitor the structural integrity of the roof and direct water jets more effectively during the multi-hour operation.
Crews battled the flames for over two hours, with the incident declared under control by 04:05. Firefighters remained on the scene throughout the morning to damp down hotspots and ensure the structure was safe. The fire severely damaged the roof and second floor, with partial damage also reported on the first floor.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Brigade's Fire Investigation team. Stock Hill, a major residential road in the Bromley ward, remained accessible to emergency vehicles throughout the night, though residents were advised to keep windows closed due to the smoke plume.
