Bickley & Sundridge: Police warn of vehicle crime

April 30, 2026

The Metropolitan Police have responded to community concerns regarding robbery by conducting targeted patrols in the Crystal Palace and Anerley Hill areas. Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) were deployed on bicycles to carry out these patrols, providing a versatile and visible presence across the hilly terrain of the border between Bromley and Southwark.

Responding to Resident Feedback

This proactive action follows direct feedback from the Met Engage priority survey, a platform used by the force to gauge local sentiment and tailor policing strategies. Residents in the Crystal Palace ward identified robbery as a primary issue of concern, prompting the Safer Neighbourhood Team to shift resources toward high-visibility deterrence.

The use of bicycles allows PCSOs to navigate park areas, narrow residential streets, and the busy Crystal Palace Triangle more effectively than traditional vehicle patrols. This mobility is essential for covering "hotspot" areas where street robberies have historically been reported.

Local Safety and Landmarks

The patrols are currently concentrated around the Anerley Hill corridor and the perimeter of Crystal Palace Park. These areas are significant hubs for commuters using Crystal Palace Station and visitors to the park’s various attractions.

Officers are also engaging with local businesses along Westow Hill and Westow Street to provide crime prevention advice and gather further intelligence. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant, particularly when using mobile devices in public spaces, and to continue providing feedback through the Met Engage portal to shape future operations.

The police statement noted that officers have observed residents using steering locks. They advised, "Consider alarms and remove valuables from inside your vehicles." For further crime prevention advice, residents are encouraged to look out for police surgeries advertised on ‘Met Engage’. The statement also mentioned a meeting with Clarion Housing Officers regarding ASB in the area of Fairmead.
