Guy's and St Thomas' solar panels are set to generate clean power and reduce energy costs across South London sites.

Trust Installs Solar Panels Across Lambeth and Southwark

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust has installed solar panels across five community health centres in Lambeth and Southwark. The initiative was funded by a £667,000 grant from Great British Energy.

The Trust anticipates annual savings of approximately £57,000. These funds can be reinvested into frontline services.

The solar panels will also contribute to reducing the Trust's environmental impact. It is expected to cut around 50 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Key Sites and Energy Storage

Solar panels have been installed at Bermondsey Health Centre, Wooden Spoon House, Bowley Close Rehabilitation Centre, Lambeth Community Care Centre, and Minnie Kidd House.

The solar arrays at Bowley Close, Minnie Kidd, and Wooden Spoon are paired with battery storage. This allows for the storage of surplus energy for later use.

At these specific sites, the solar installations can generate up to 50% of the electricity used annually.

Tendai Wileman, Executive Director of Corporate Development, Chief of Staff, and Executive Lead for Sustainability at Guy’s and St Thomas’, commented, “This marks a key step forwards in our pledge to protect the environment while continuing to provide high-quality care for our patients.”

“Installing solar panels at our community health centres will help us reduce our bills, produce clean energy and deliver on our Green Plan,” Wileman added.

The Trust's Green Plan to 2028 outlines its strategy for delivering environmentally sustainable healthcare. This initiative builds on existing efforts to reduce waste and improve local air quality.
