Nelson and Florence wards are relocating to New Douglas Bennett House (NDBH) on 21 and 22 July. These moves have been expedited as construction works near completion.
This transition represents a significant step for the Trust. It aims to provide service users with a more therapeutic environment to support their recovery.
The wards will join the Eating Disorders Unit, which successfully moved into the new building in May. Positive feedback has already been received from service users regarding the new space.
Learnings from the May move have informed refined processes for future ward transitions. The wider programme of scheduled moves remains on track.
Further wards from Lambeth Hospital will move to NDBH and Bethlem Royal Hospital in late August and September. This is part of a significant modernisation project.
Emma Porter, Service Director for Lambeth, stated, "As we're transitioning to our new hospital, we're igniting a wave of positivity that transforms patient experiences and uplifts our staff's well-being."
New Douglas Bennett House is a £60 million purpose-built facility. It is designed to transform services, supporting high-quality clinical care and a positive working environment.
Wards feature ensuite bathrooms, therapy rooms, outdoor courtyards, and quiet spaces. Plans for the moves are managed individually with service users and their clinical teams.
The Trust previously agreed the sale of the Lambeth Hospital site to Legal & General. This is a key part of the largest modernisation project in the Trust's history.
