Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, BCU Commander for Lambeth & Southwark, addressed residents, acknowledging the seasonal increase in crime during lighter evenings. She stated, "With lighter evenings, more people stay out longer to enjoy this time of year. However, some people do this with bad intentions, and it is my job, and that of my officers to keep you all safe and to catch these criminals and put them before the courts." The force confirmed that knife crime is down 17% locally, and moped-enabled crime has fallen by 69%. In Southwark specifically, mobile phone robbery has decreased by 22%.

Despite these positive statistics, the police acknowledge that serious youth violence remains a concern. The statement referenced the tragic death of Kamahl Cameron-Williams, who was stabbed in the early hours of 21st June. Several arrests have been made, and individuals have been charged in connection with this incident.
