Police arrest seven in Southwark retail crime crackdown

Seven arrests were made during a proactive operation in the London Bridge area as part of Operation Honey Badger, an initiative focused on tackling retail-related crime and anti-social behaviour.

The operation, carried out on Wednesday 6 May, involved officers from the London Bridge and West Bermondsey Safer Neighbourhood Teams, working alongside British Transport Police (BTP).

The operation utilized a "layered" policing approach, deploying a mix of plain-clothes officers to spot covert activity, uniformed officers on bicycles for rapid response, and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) to provide a visible deterrent.

7 arrests: All involving individuals previously known to the police for criminal activity.
8 stop and searches: Conducted based on intelligence and observed behaviour.
2 Community Resolutions: Issued for the possession of Class B drugs.
6 postal charges: Offenders were charged for an array of previous offences.
1 closure order: Specifically targeting a prolific shoplifter who is also being processed by Southwark Council for a persistent pattern of disruption.
